Exclusive: McCorckle Talks NC State Offer

NC State head coach Mark Gottfried was up early this morning watching Carson McCorkle, and afterwards he had seen enough to extend a scholarship offer to him. This was the second time in one week that an NC State coach had been over to watch the Broughton High School Freshman.

“Coach Pierre came and watched me Tuesday morning,” McCorkle said. “That led to Coach Gottfried coming this morning and the offer was made after my workout.”

McCorkle is out of Broughton High School in NC State’s backyard, and the offer from his hometown meant a lot.

“It meant a lot. I’ve grown a big Pack fan. This means a lot to my family too,” said McCorkle. “My mom went to NC State and we all love State. Coach Gottfried told me that he believed in me and to keep working hard. I’m really excited.”

Even though he has yet to play a single minute of high school basketball he is already getting interest from a lot of high major schools.

Iowa and Georgia Tech have offered. Unc, Davidson, Virginia, Wisconsin, Clemson, Duke, Wake Forest, and Ohio State are all interested as well.” McCorkle said.

Some might wonder why NC State would offer a kid at such a young age. Take a look at the schools that are interested in him. These coaches scout talent for a living. They know what they are looking for. They are professionals. It is a wise move for NC State to go ahead and get ahead the other schools in the area and be the first Triangle team to offer, especially considering he bleeds Wolfpack red.
