Pack in the Pros

Packer’s Are Appreciating Josh Jones’ Nastiness

Former NC State Safety Josh Jones has brought the ruckus up to Green Bay, and the Packers are loving every minute of it.

On Saturday, during padded practice, Jones laid out rookie receiver Malachi Dupre, and not everyone was pleased, especially tight end Richard Rogers. Jones apologized for the ferocity of the hit.

“You know, it was just bad football by me,” Jones said. “I wasn’t practicing the right way. I shouldn’t have did (sic) that. You’ve got to protect your teammates at all times, you know. But it was a good day being able to get back to football. I haven’t strapped up pads since December. It was good to get back to that.” (Link)

D-Line coach Mike Daniels knew that Jones took it too far, but deep down, he loved it.

“Josh Jones is exactly what we thought he was,” Daniels said. “He comes in and he’s quiet, but he shows up with bad attitude (on the field) and that’s what you need out there on the defensive side of the ball.” (Link)

Through Fall camp thus far, Jones just keeps making play after play. In practice yesterday, he collected an interception, a pass breakup, and a quarterback pressure that would have smothered the signal caller if he weren’t wearing a red jersey.

The Packers took Jones with the 61st overall pick in this years draft (2nd round), and they are finding creative ways to use him. Not only is he obviously lining up at safety, but they are also lining him up at inside linebacker sometimes.

Head coach Mike McCarthy likes what he sees in Jones.

“I think you see exactly what you see in college, and that’s what jumps off the video on Josh,” coach Mike McCarthy said before Monday’s practice. “He plays with a tenacity. He’s always around the football. He’s very instinctive. Has excellent range. He’s off to a good start.” (USA)

Be looking for Josh Jones on Sunday’s in the near future ladies and gentlemen.
