Glennon is the Unquestionable Leader of Bears Offense

I wonder what was going through former NC State quarterback Mike Glennon’s mind when the Chicago Bears traded up on draft night to move up one spot, so that they could draft Mitch Trubisky with the 2nd pick of the 2017 NFL Draft. If I were him, I would have been a tad confused, because the Bears just signed Glennon to a 3-year deal worth $43.5 million in March.

Despite the drafting of Trubisky, the Bears have made it clear in training camp that Mike Glennon is the starting quarterback of the Chicago Bears.

“Glennon’s here for a reason. We evaluated him over the years. We’re very confident in him. Glennon’s our starter, and we’re confident with that. This thing is going to have to play out. But Mike Glennon is our starting quarterback, and I don’t think now is the time to deal in hypotheticals going forward.” (Link)

And everything coming out of Bear camp implies that they intend for Glennon to be the starter all season.

While Glennon hasn’t been perfect at Fall Camp thus far, he has stood out as the ‘unquestionable leader’

“He’s the one who’s the catalyst, and those guys follow with him and they’re pushing him,” quarterbacks coach Dave Ragone said. “He wants to compete. He wants to be pushed in the meeting rooms and on the field.” (SunTimes)

“It’s usually the offensive coordinator, but never the quarterback,” running back Jordan Howard said. “We need it. It’s to get us better, so we’re not complaining. That’s definitely something new. He’s definitely pushing everybody. He’s doing a great job of commanding the team.”

Glennon isn’t playing around either. The signal caller adds up every false start and every turnover, and the total number equals the total number of ‘gassers’ that he makes the whole offensive unit at the end of each practice.

The Bears might have drafted Mitch Trubisky to the quarterback of the future, but Mike Glennon is the quarterback of the present, and he is going to do everything he can to show them that he’s worth every penny they are paying him.
