Will Jaylen Samuels break the NC State Record Book?

Published

on

Jaylen Samuels has been one of the most electric and versatile players in college football the past two seasons. He is entering his Senior season, and at the end of the year, it is likely that JaySam will have carved up the NC State record books.

Touchdowns

Rushing

Samuels enters this year with 16 career rushing touchdowns, which ranks 14th in NC State history. Fifteen of them came in the past two seasons. If Samuels were to reproduce his average of the past two seasons, he could claim sole possession of 6th place all time with 24.

Receiving

JaySam’s 15 career TD receptions already ranks 6th all-time in school history. If he picks up his average of 7 more touchdowns from the past two seasons, he would finish his career in 2nd place behind Torry Holt, with 22 touchdowns.

Total

Samuels’ 31 career touchdowns ranks 7th all-time heading into his final season. He has averaged 15 touchdowns over the past two seasons. If he were to reproduce those numbers, he would finish his career with 46, only 5 shy of Ted Brown, who sits in first place. That’s crazy company to be keeping. That total would surpass Stan Fritts, Torry Holt, Matt Dayes, T.A. McClendon, and Ray Robinson.

Receptions

JaySam enters his final season with 126 career receptions, which ranks 7th all-time in NC State history. If he picked up 60 more receptions this year (his average over the past two years), he would finish with 186 career receptions. That’s 5 receptions behind Torry Holt in second place, and 14 behind Jerricho Cotchery in 1st.

I’ve been an NC State fan my whole life, and it is exciting to watch a player in Samuels who could finish his career, standing shoulder to shoulder in the record books with names like Brown…Fritts…Holt…and Cotchery.
