N&O: NC State sources confident PG Beverly will play this season
Some more news on the Braxton Beverly front.
As you likely know, 4 star PG Braxton Beverly, who was once committed to Ohio State, has switched over to the Wolfpack. The problem is, Beverly (an incoming freshman) decided to take summer classes as OSU before deciding to leave. Under NCAA rules, Beverly is now required to sit out a year and will be treated as a transfer student, even though he has never suited up with OSU.
Now, the N&O’s Joe Giglio is reporting that there might be a loophole in which Beverly is allowed to play this season. Here are his tweets on the subject.
My understanding is there is a loophole to the "freshman-goes-to-class-but-wants-to-transfer" situations

Or at least for summer school classes

If School A (Ohio State, Western KY) doesn't admit Player X (Beverly, Robinson), normally a formality, they would be free to play right away

If School A (Ohio State, Western KY) admits Player X (Beverly, Robinson), they would need an NCAA waiver (unlikely) or sit out a year

There is a degree of confidence, among my NC State sources, that OSU will simply not admit Beverly and he will be able to play right away

.@RealKyleWiggins No, there's a solution that doesn't directly involve the NCAA and that's the best (and most likely) path for Beverly

There's a difference between taking a summer school class and starting fall/spring classes https://t.co/UxzStsH5v1

TLDR: You can take summer school classes without being officially ‘admitted’ by NCAA standards. If Ohio State doesn’t or hasn’t admitted him, then he was never truly a student at OSU. This means that you bypass the NCAA altogether and simply admit Beverly to NC State. If this situation holds up and he, in fact, was never officially admitted to OSU, then Beverly plays this year for NC State.
We will keep an eye on this situation.
