Could the Suns Trade T.J. Warren For Kyrie Irving?

It’s almost been a month since Kyrie Irving informed the Cleveland Cavaliers that he would like to be traded. Initially, he made it clear that he would prefer to land in Minnesota, Miami, New York, and San Antonio, but that hasn’t stopped other teams from lining up for the superstar.

Twenty teams have expressed interest in Irving, and 6 teams have officially offered trades for him: San Antonio Spurs, L.A. Clippers, Phoenix Suns, Minnesota Timberwolves, New York Knicks and Miami Heat.

Out of all of those possibilities, the Phoenix Suns could be the most likely to land Irving, and former NC State standout T.J. Warren could be possibly be a part of the trade.

The Suns would be willing to trade Eric Bledsoe as part of a deal for Irving, even if Irving makes no commitment. But they would not want to include rookie Josh Jackson in that deal, assuming Irving keeps his options open. The Cavs would love shooting guard Devin Booker, but he is as close to untouchable as anyone on the Suns roster. The Suns would love to put together a package with Brandon Knight, T.J. Warren and Bledsoe for Irving and some others such as Iman Shumpert or Channing Frye to make it work on the salary cap. That has little appeal to the Cavs. Knight has a torn ACL knee injury and will miss the entire season. So forget him. I still think Phoenix is a likely destination for Irving. The Suns can be tempted at some point to give up Jackson, an athletic small forward who would help the Cavs. He was the No. 4 pick in the draft. But right now, it appears the two teams are just waiting to see if anything else comes up, such as a third-party deal. (Link)

Talks seem to be at a standstill at this point, with the Suns seemingly unwilling to move Jackson or Booker, but this doesn’t mean that the Suns won’t eventually break and include the likes of Jackson. The Cavs could also breakdown eventually and realize they probably aren’t going to get a better offer than what Phoenix has to provide.

Warren started in 59 of the 66 games that he played last season for the Suns, averaging 14 points and 5 rebounds, while shooting 49 percent from the field.

At NC State, Warren earned ACC Player of the Year honors his Sophomore season, when he averaged 25 points and 7 rebounds per game.

We will have to see how the Irving sweepstakes concludes, but as it stands now one of the possible scenarios could involve Warren moving cities.
