Will Mike Glennon Keep the Starting Job?

Two weeks ago, the owner of the Bears made it clear that former NC State quarterback Mike Glennon was the unquestionable leader of the Chicago offense, and the plans for the 2017-18 season were for him to be the starter from the beginning of the season to the end.

But that was before Glennon threw his second pass in the first preseason game against the Broncos for an interception that was returned for a touchdown. His final stats: 2/8 for 20 yards and a 0 QB rating.

On the other hand, former UNC QB Mitch Trubisky was lights out in his performance against the Broncos, going 18/25 for 166 yards, and a touchdown (103.1).

This weeks second round of preseason action didn’t do much to help Glennon’s grip remain any tighter on the starting job. While Glennon’s completion percentage was better (13 for 18), and he threw his first touchdown, he also managed to throw his second interception of the preseason. Trubisky on the other hand, seemingly outplayed Glennon once again, completing 6 of his 8 passes, for 60 yards and a touchdown. His 135.4 QB rating was superior to Glennon’s 78.2.

I would expect Glennon to still come out as the starter in the third preseason game next week, which tends to be the player who opens the regular season as the starter as well. The preseason is the preseason, but Glennon is going to start showing the coaching staff something more, or they will alter their initial plan, and start Trubisky sooner than expected.
