NC State vs. South Carolina Depth Chart

NC State has released their depth chart for the South Carolina, and everything is pretty much what we expected to see in regards to the starters, but what stands out is the word “or” scattered all throughout it.

Running Back Nyheim Hines might be at the top of the depth chart, but don’t miss the “or after his name. In fact, don’t miss the “or” after Reggie Gallaspy either. It looks like the coaching staff is heading into the game Saturday with a three-headed monster at Running Back. This could indicate an extreme competition at the position, or it simply reveals that the coaches want to use a Running Back-by-committee approach.

Defensive End Kentavius Street is ahead of Darian Roseboro on the depth chart, but an “or” sits between their names. Street has seen an “or” after his name quite a bit over the years. The coaching staff believes they have 5 starters on the defensive front. If Street wants to have the breakout season he needs to have this season, he’s going to have to distinguish himself from a very talented Roseboro. Don’t be surprised to see Roseboro get moved to the interior occasionally to maximize his snaps as well.

Justin Jones is ahead of Eurndraus Bryant as expected, but once again, don’t miss the “or” in between their names. Jones has flashed a lot, but so has Bryant every time he steps on the field. He might be one of the biggest guys on the team, but he’s got cat-like reflexes. He played left field in high school, boasting a .490 batting average.

Here is a little perspective on what type of player Germaine Pratt might be at Linebacker. Airius Moore is the second best returning Linebacker in the ACC, and Pratt, who has never played a snap at the position in college, has an “or” between him and the Senior.

Props to Slot Receiver Jakobi Myers, the converted Quarterback. I expected Gavin Locklear to start at the beginning of the season, but the buzz of Myers in Fall Camp must have been legit.

I was already excited about the depth at Wide Receiver, but I’m even more excited after seeing True Freshman Emeka Emezie on the two-deep ahead of Maurice Trowell. He’s one of two True Freshman on the depth chart, and with the depth already at each position, they wouldn’t use him this season unless they simply couldn’t justify keeping him of the field.

As expected, Johnathan Alston will step in at starter for the injured Mike Stevens, playing his 1st collegiate snaps at the position.

Finally, we knew that Shawn Boone had been working at Nickelback in Fall Camp, but it’s official now. The coaches must feel very confident in Jarius Moorehead and Dexter Wright to officially move Boone from Safety. If those two prove efficient, I think Boone will soar this season at Nickel. He was one of the most sure tacklers in the nation last season, and now he will be closer to the line of scrimmage.
