Jaylen Samuels WILL Break All-Time Receptions Record

By seasons end, H-Back Jaylen Samuels will have caught more passes than any other player in NC State history.

That’s my prediction of what WILL happen.

Former Wolfpack Wide Receiver Jerricho Cothcery has had a firm grip on this record since 2003, when he finished his career with 200 receptions. He passed the legendary Torry Holt, whose 191 career receptions held the top spot for 5 years.

Currently Samuels has 146 career receptions. For him to tie Cothcery’s record of 200 receptions, he needs to average 5.4 receptions per game for the rest of the regular season. If we go to a bowl game (which would be a sin if we didn’t), then Samuels needs to average 4.9 catches over the rest of the season.

In the season opener against South Carolina, Samuels tied a NC State record for receptions in a single game with 15. This past Saturday, he had 5 receptions against Marshall.

While Samuels current average of 10 receptions per game might be higher than what it will be at season end, I can’t imagine him averaging less than 5 receptions per game in this offense.

NC State fans shouldn’t take Jaylen Samuels for granted. We are truly watching one of the best receivers of all-time at NC State.
