NC State Crushes Furman 49-16

It isn’t shocking, but the NC State defense got off to a slow start, and allowed Furman to make this a two-possession game at the half, 28-13. They then proceeded to wake up and only allow 3 more points to go upon the scoreboard the rest of the contest, with the Wolfpack trouncing the Paladins 49-16.

After Furman Quarterback P.J. Blazejowski connected with Wide Receiver Andy Schumpert for a 71-yard touchdown reception in the second quarter, the Wolfpack scored 28 unanswered points, collecting touchdowns on 4 consecutive drives.

NC State’s Swiss Army knife Jaylen Samuels tied a career high, rushing for 3 touchdowns in the first half. He also led the Wolfpack in receptions (6) and receiving yards (75).

Wolfpack signal caller Ryan Finley entered the game completing 74% of his passes, and he managed to improve that gaudy number. Finley completed 82% of his passes against Furman today, completing 22 of 27 for 231 yards and 1 touchdown. Three of those incompletions were dropped passes, 1 was a play where the receiver fell down, and the other one was a slightly overthrown pass to Kelvin Harmon.

Nyheim Hines had the best game of his career as a running back at NC State, rushing 11 times for 92 yards (8.4 yards per carry) and a touchdown (28-harder).

NC State’s defense allowed Furman to collect 329 yards of offense, with 112 of those yards coming on two plays with blown coverages. The highlight of the Wolfpack’s defensive performance was taking the ball away from their opponent 3 times (They could have had one more if Germaine Pratt would have held on to an interception that should have been.). Darian Roseboro might come off the bench, but don’t be fooled, he is a disruptive force. He led the Wolfpack with 9 tackles, 2 tackles for loss, and 0.5 sacks.

All-in-all, NC State finished with a decisive victory over Furman, as they head into ACC play down at Florida St. next weekend.
