NC State Starts 2-0 in ACC for 1st Time in 11 Years

Yesterday NC State defeated Syracuse 33-25 to improve to 2-0 in ACC play for the first time since 2006.

That’s 11 years.

Back then Chuck Amato was the head coach of the Wolfpack. After starting the 2006 season with a win over Appalachian St., the Wolfpack lost to Akron and Southern Miss. It looked like NC State was turning things around when they defeated Boston College and Florida St, both who were ranked in the Top 25, to start off the ACC schedule. Unfortunately, NC State wouldn’t win another game that season, and it ended up being Chuck Amato’s final season at NC State.

NC State has the chance to improve to 3-0 in conference play this Thursday night, but it won’t be easy, because their opponent will be #17 Louisville.

The last time NC State started a season 3-0 in ACC play was back in 2002 (they actually started the season 4-0 in ACC play). Philip Rivers was at the helm, and he helped lead NC State to what is arguably the best season in school history, finishing with an 11-3 record, and a victory over Notre Dame in the Gator Bowl.

Kudos to Dave Doeren for leading the Pack to where they haven’t been in 11 years.
