NC State’s Win Over Louisville: The Biggest Win in Recent Memory

NC State’s 39-25 victory over Louisville was one of the biggest wins for the Wolfpack in recent memory.

The last time a ranked NC State team faced off against a ranked team in Carter-Finley Stadium and won was on November 21st, 1992, when the #13 Wolfpack defeated the #25 Wake Forest Demon Deacons 42-14.

I’m going to pause for you to process that.

NC State is now 3-0 in ACC play for the first time since the 2002 season, when they went on to finish the season with a 11-3 record, and a 12th place ranking in the Final AP Poll.

Last night also marked the first time NC State has defeated Louisville in ACC play.

NC State had lost their last five games as a ranked team, and the monkey has officially been ripped off of their back. The last time the Wolfpack won a game as a ranked team, was when they opened the 2003 season ranked 16th, and defeated Western Carolina 59-20.

Wolfpack head coach Dave Doeren has a 24-hour rule after games. If they win, the players and coaches are only allowed to celebrate for 24-hours, and then it’s back to business. Last night after the game, Doeren said that he told his players that he extended the rule to 48-hours after the victory.

Wolfpack fans, soak it all in. It was a historical win, and feel free to celebrate longer than 48-hours if you want. Doeren’s rule only applies to coaches and players.
