Last night former NC State wrestler Darrion Caldwell (11-1)  defeated Eduardo Dantas (20-5) for the bantamweight MMA world title at Bellator 184. Caldwell won on unanimous decision, 50-45.

Caldwell is not a foreigner to being a champion, because he was a National Championship as a member of the Wolfpack in 2009.

Last night marked Caldwell’s first fight in 300 days, because he missed the past couple of months, delaying the fight against Dantas.

Taking the belt from Dantas was no small feat. Dantas hasn’t lost a fight since October 10, 2014.

“It feels like a dream come true,” he continued. “The Wolf is here, this is my belt and I’m keeping it for a long, long time baby.” (ESPN)
