NC State Negotiating Contract Extension with Doeren already?

According to USA Today Sports, Dave Doeren and NC State are currently negotiating a contract extension following the Wolfpack’s big win over Louisville.

It wasn’t long ago that Doeren was on the hot seat at NC State. At the end of last season, many fans believed this 2017 season would be make-or-break for the head coach, and an opening season loss to South Carolina only threw more fuel on the fire.

However, since that loss, NC State has reeled off 5 consecutive wins, including one over #12 FSU and Thursday’s win over Louisville.

Doeren is 30-27 overall at N.C. State and his contract was extended following the 2014 season to run through 2019. Once the deal is completed, the news should spread fairly quickly with a number of years and dollar figure.

But the real question is, why right now? He’s done a great job this year, and NC State fans should be proud, but this is a tad premature if you ask us.  Half the season still remains and as NC State fans should know, anything can happen.

For instance, the last three NC State teams to start 5-1 lost the next game. The year Chuck Amato was fired, he beat two ranked teams in a row early in the season, and proceeded to lose out the rest, finishing 3-9.

We’re not trying to be doom and gloom here. In fact, we are 100% behind Doeren and the team, but it seems a bit early to be throwing around big money extensions with only half the season in the books.

What do you think?
