Ryan Finley pops up on SI’s NFL Draft QB stock watch

It’s not a secret anymore. Ryan Finley is good, and while everyone is talking about Bradley Chubb and Jaylen Samuels, this kid is on pace to get his name in the NC State record books. In fact, there is a good chance that if he returns for his senior season that he could become #2 all-time at NC State for passing yards (behind Philip Rivers).

With that type of trajectory, you have to believe that NFL scouts are starting to take notice. Sports Illustrated obviously is. Finley made it onto the 2018 NFL Draft QB Stock Watch in the ‘Helped Himself’ category. This is what they had to say.

Ryan Finley, N.C. State. Last year, everyone was looking for the next Carson Wentz—the mid-major kid who’d leap into the national consciousness—and that wound up being Josh Allen. This year, people want to know who the next Mitch Trubisky is—the guy who bursts on to the scene from seemingly out of nowhere—and maybe, the place to find that player is not very far from where Trubisky went to school. Finley, a fourth-year junior, threw for 367 yards and a touchdown on 20-of-31 passing in the Wolfpack’s upset of Louisville last Thursday, fueling the curiosity of scouts who are scrambling to learn more about the second-year starter. At 6′ 4″ and 210 pounds (listed), the Boise State transfer has the measurables and should be interesting to follow going forward. N.C. State, by the way, has won five straight, including a win over Florida State.

If Finley can keep up the pace, look for his name to start surfacing as a possible draft candidate in 2018, but most certainly in 2019.
