Ryan Finley Needs 66 more passes without INT for ACC record

NC State (#QBU) is out to break another ACC quarterback record it already holds.

Ryan Finley is only 66 passes (without an interception) away from breaking Russell Wilson’s record of 379 attempts without a pick. That means, at 35.4 attempts per game, Finley is on pace to break the record during their matchup with Clemson on November 4th.

These charts show you a few things.

A) Finley is crushing the other current FBS streaks. Christian Chapman of San Diego St is next up and he’s only at 157 attempts.

B) NC State only recently started recruiting quarterbacks who don’t turn the ball over. Wilson has the record with 379, then there is Finley, followed by Brissett who had a streak of 187. All of those guys played within the past 8 years. Interesting, right? It could have to do with a more conservative offensive approach under O’Brien and now Doeren, or it could just the fact that NC State is just pumping out high-end quarterbacks who value ball security.

The ACC record is obviously in reach, but what about the NCAA FBS record. Does Finley have a chance to break that?

Well, Colby Cameron of Louisiana Tech is the current holder of that record. Cameron went 444 attempts without an interception in 2011-2o12. That puts Finley 131 attempts off that record. Meaning at the current pace, Finley actually would pass Cameron in 4 games.

We’ll keep you updated as Finley’s streak marches on.
