Last night former NC State point guard Dennis Smith Jr had himself a game, filling the box score with 22 points (Career High), 8 rebounds and 8 assists. In fact, Smith became the youngest Mav to score 20 points in a game.

Dennis had the best game of his young career against John Wall, but he wasn’t intimidated by the NBA Star.

“Nobody is going to intimidate me. It’s just playing basketball. John is a really great player and one of the best point guards in the league, but my focus was coming out and being as good as I can for our team,” Smith explained. (MAVS)

His coach, Rick Carlisle, liked what he saw, and he’d like to see more of the same.

“Dennis Smith was a great basketball player tonight. He was great in all areas,” Carlisle said while praising the rookie point guard. “He demonstrated aggression, poise, smarts and leadership, and it’s great to see. He’s worked so hard and it’s been frustrating, obviously, at times, but to have it come together on the road in really a must-win game with where we’re at is really great to see. Now, he’s just got to duplicate it.” (MAVS)

Through 10 games, DSJ is averaging 14.2 points, 4.9 assists and 3.6 rebounds.
