This past weekend 3-star 2019 Cornerback Shyheim Hines (6’2”/168) took a visit to Raleigh to take in the Wolfpack’s game against the Clemson Tigers. He is ranked as the 20th best player in the class of 2019 in North Carolina by Rivals. I had the chance to catch up with him, and he gave me his thoughts on the experience, and on NC State’s recruitment of him.

On the experience of being in Carter-Finley for the Clemson game…

I wish I could’ve arrived earlier to see warm ups. I arrived in time to see kickoff though. I loved every moment of the game, it even felt like I was playing in the game. It was that intense. I caught the chills a few times from the crowd when State made a big play. Since State has been recruiting me I’ve been keeping a eye on #5 Jonathan Austin. Coach Barlow told me to keep an eye on him, because he’s one of the top, if not the top DB state has. I take mental reps on how he plays and try to pick up on it and use it in practice. In his press man he’s patient and waits on the receiver to make his move and react to it. He plays real calm and relaxed like me. That’s something similar we have in common. If he gets beat he doesn’t hang his head. He gets back set for the next play and goes back to work. Overall Austin had a good game from me watching from the stands. I don’t believe he gave up over 3 receptions. I enjoyed the game and I was in-and-out of my seat every time State made a big play. I’ll be back visiting again when UNC comes to State.

On NC State’s recruitment of him…

State has been recruiting me since the winter of my sophomore season. Coach Barlow came to visit me at school and talked to me, and asked me questions about my personal life, school and football life. Coach Barlow told me to come up to one of the camps in the summer and on June 24 I came up to camp and he saw me doing well and told me to stay after so I could tour and stufff. So I stayed and toured the football facility and had a photo shoot in the locker room, it was really cool. A few minutes later I went up stairs to Coach Doeren’s office. While my father and I were talking to him, he offered me a full scholarship to play at NC State. Since September 1st, NC State has been sending me mail about 5-6 days out of the week, often more than one letter a day, which shows to me they have a lot of interest in me. Coach Doeren also came to one of practices to see me and we spoke a little about leadership. He has texted me a few times also. Mainly it’s Coach Barlow texting me, checking up on me about once a week. State shows a lot of interest my way.
