NC State Survives An Ugly Battle, Beats BC 17-14

Welp.

It was far from pretty, but who freaking cares?!?

NC State beat Boston College on the road 17-14 today to improve to 7-3 overall and 5-1 in the ACC. They are only the 16th Wolfpack team to rack up 5 ACC wins in a season.

Coming into today, the Wolfpack was only 2-6 in Boston. Chestnut Hill has been NC State’s kryptonite through the years, but today’s narrative had a different conclusion.

This game shouldn’t have been a 3-point game. Kyle Bambard missed 3 field goals. NC State Offensive Coordinator Eliah Drinkwitz called a strangely timed backwards pass from Jaylen Samuels out of the Wildcat to Ryan Finley that went wonky and resulted in a turnover, giving Boston College the lead in the 3rd Quarter.

With their backs against the wall, some of NC State’s stars refused to lose.

Bradley Chubb had 8 tackles, 4 tackles for loss, and 2.5 sacks. One of his sacks resulted in a fumble that was recovered by the Pack. He also applied a QB pressure that led to a Shawn Boone interception when the Golden Eagles were in the red zone. In one game, he surpassed Mario Williams all-time record for sacks and tackles for loss in a career.

With NC State down by 3, with a little over 8 minutes left in the game, running back Nyheim Hines, willed his way to a 50-yard touchdown run, that was the go-ahead score. Hines finished with 110 yards rushing on 19 carries, and 203 all-purpose yards. He wasn’t at full strength today, but managed to pick up his 4th 100-yard game of the season.

NC State even caught a bit of luck when Boston College was unable to even kick a field goal because of a bad snap in the 4th that would have tied the game.

Hey, it’s about time a little luck broke NC State’s way.

It’s never pretty when these two teams face each other. It’s always smash mouth, and it was once again.

This was a character building victory for the Wolfpack, who persevered, and were able to get out of their own way in the end.

Now, Florida St., go play the game of your life and beat Clemson. Pretty please. Thanks.
