NFL Concussion Protocol Under fire over treatment of ex-NC State QBs

The NFL better be careful not to upset their #1 supplier of QB’s, NC State University.

There is talk around the league that the Seahawks and Colts both dismissed concussion protocol and allowed their quarterbacks to enter back into the game after showing clear signs of injury. NC State fans might not have cared all that much, except for the fact that in both cases it was their former QBs Russell Wilson and Jacoby Brissett.

This is bringing up questions of the protocol itself and whether or not the NFL is even enforcing it at all. Both Brissett and Wilson showed obvious signs of concussions, exited the game and were allowed to re-enter.

The NFL states the player must be run through tests to be cleared in order to go back into the game. That is, if they pass. Brissett supposedly passed (he exited for a bit), but after the game, they said he was having concussion symptoms.

For Wilson, they said he passed as well, however, he only was off the field for a quick moment. During that time there is likely no way he could have been put through the battery of tests.

So what is the NFL going to do? Are they going to fine these teams, or are they just going to continue to allow teams to poo-poo the concussion issue?

Maybe this will make Ryan Finley think twice about heading to the NFL next season. Maybe give them an extra year to figure out their concussion protocols. Right, Ryan? Please, Ryan?!?
