Huge news just broke for NC State’s 2018 Men’s Basketball recruiting class! The school just reported Derek Funderburk (6’10”/225) has signed his letter of intent to run with the Wolfpack.

Funderburk was a a 4-Star Power Forward prospect that committed to Ohio St as a member of the 2016 recruiting class. Scout ranked him as the #56 player in his class.

He was dismissed from Ohio St. this summer, after redshirting last season under Thad Matta. Funderburk was released for “failing to meet team expectations.”

As a result, Funderburk decided to transfer to Northwest Florida State College, which is a Junior College, so he could play right away.

On the weekend of October 27th, Funderburk was in Raleigh for an official visit. Funderburk’s connections with the NC State go back to Hargrave Military Academy. Not only was Kevin Keatts the head coach at Hargrave for years, but NC State assistant coach A.W. Hamilton was actually Derek Funderburk’s head coach at Hargrave.

This is a huge pickup for the NC State coaching staff. The Wolfpack went from having a huge concern about the front court heading into 2018, to now having a surplus of big fellas.
