4-star LB Payton Wilson talks to Rivals about NC State, others

The national Rivals site released a free interview with 4-star LB Payton Wilson where he breaks down the 4 schools remaining on his list.

Just last week, Wilson decommitted from UNC and didn’t waste any time moving on to new schools. Here he is on NC State’s sideline this past weekend. (Tweet from ABC’s Mark Armstrong)

Wilson’s decommitment really wasn’t a huge shock if you had been paying attention. As the Heels kept on losing and the crowds at their stadium got smaller and smaller, Wilson started to get wandering eyes. Even before decommitting, he took an official visit to NC State.

However, this is no one-horse race. Currently, NC State does sit in the driver’s seat based on prior relationship, familiarity and distance from home, but he has other schools working hard to get his attention.

Rival’s recruiting analyst Adam Friedman recently caught up with Wilson to talk about all of those schools. Here is what he had to say about NC State.

“Coach Hux and coach Doeren, honestly, they are great people and I love them more as coaches,” he said. “I feel like they can develop me to be the best person I can be for college or, hopefully, the next level. I do really fit in well with the school and the people. I feel like I fit in well with the players too.

“One thing that really intrigues me is the atmosphere,” said Wilson. “It’s the best you’re going to get on the east coast. They pack the stadium if they are playing a D-II school or if they’re playing Clemson. The atmosphere is insane. N.C. State is known for their run defense and I really love that.
