Dave Doeren Turns down Tennessee, staying at NC State

NC State dodged a bullet today as Dave Doeren turned down huge money and a top tier SEC gig to stay in Raleigh.

Tennessee reportedly was offering him in the neighborhood of $4 millions over 5 years (rumor is that it was guaranteed), but it wasn’t enough to pry him away from Raleigh.

Word on his contract with NC State hasn’t been released, but we are expecting the base pay to be around $3 million with big incentives, big assistant pay and 5 or 6 years.

Make no mistake. Doeren was at least interested in hearing offers, but it’s unclear if it was leverage for a raise or if he was actually contemplating moving on. If this was a play for a raise, it was a ballsy move by the 5th year head coach.

Everyone wins today. He’s staying in Raleigh. They met his demands and NC State doesn’t have to worry about their football coaches contract for a long time. This is also a testament to the man. He turned down a lot of money and ton of exposure to stay here and build this program. NC State fans always preach loyalty and today Dave Doeren proved his.

We’ll have more as it becomes available.
