Giglio: Dave Doeren’s Decision Expected Today

According to Joe Giglio of the News & Observer, Dave Doeren is expected to make his decision between NC state and Tennessee today.

What is Tennessee offering Doeren? No one knows who to believe in this whirlwind. I’ve seen $3 million thrown out there by a Tennessee writer. Former Volunteers Head Coach Butch Jones was making $4 million. I’ve even heard $4.5 million is on the table.

Doeren’s current salary at NC State is roughly $2.2 million.

According to Giglio, Doeren wants a five year deal, to move towards the middle of the pack of ACC coaching salaries, and better pay and security for his assistants. Wolfpack Athletic Director Debbie Yow was sticking at 4 years.

When things heated up between Doeren and Tennessee the past couple of days, NC State improved the offer they had on the table, which included the length of the contract.

In another tweet, Giglio said that he believes NC State is offering close to what Doeren was seeking in a contract midseason.

The years (five total) were a major sticking point with Doeren and NC State. My understanding is NC State’s deal is close to what Doeren had originally wanted when negotiations began in October

With the Tennessee offer on the table, Doeren is likely seeking more now than he was midseason.
