The Athletic just restarted their Podcast dedicated to the NFL Draft, and their first guest was NC State’s Bradley Chubb. You can listen to it here, or read a breakdown of what he said below.

After talking to Coach Doeren, my family, and my brother, thought it was the best decision for me to come back, not just for the Draft, but to finish what I started here at NC State. Coming back was probably the best thing that happened for me. As a team we build a culture that should carry on into the future. I’ve helped myself out a lot through the process as well, but my thoughts throughout the process has been about the team, not myself.

Because my brother Brandon has been in the NFL, a lot of things won’t be a shock to me. I watched him go through the hiring of an agent and the training process.

I would say that my performance against Florida State shows what I am capable of doing better than the other games.  In that game I displayed my energy, my pass rush ability, and my run stop ability. It was probably one of my best games this year, and if someone wanted to do a scouting report on me, I would pick that game.

By the end of the season I realized that people were not going to run directly towards me, because they have learned that that isn’t a good thing to do. I had to learn to not get frustrated, do my job, and do what the defense needed me to do.

The fundamentals and technique that I play the game with make me effective at stopping the run. If your hand slips a little bit, you are going for a ride. It was a huge learning curve for me, because coming out of high school I was a linebacker. I was standing up all the time. I learned that I can’t just use my speed. If I want to be successful, I have to use my hands.

If I was asked by a team to go back to linebacker in a 3-4 defense, I would be comfortable with that. I’ve dropped back quite a bit this year. I can do a lot of things and don’t think my talent is limited to defensive end.

The game against Notre Dame last year was probably the most fun I’ve ever had. You would make a tackle and slide an extra 5 yards.

The whole season I’ve been taking towels from a lot of people. I’m an observant guy. If I see you take your towel and wipe your hands every play, I’m going to take it from you. I did it in almost every game this season, but that overhead camera against Clemson caught me. Maturing and growing up is something I need to do. I have to be smart, and can’t just keep doing anything and everything.

When my finger dislocated it didn’t hurt, but seeing it made it hurt. They snapped it back in and my coach told me JPP only has 7 fingers, so get used to it.

I’ve been careful not to look at mock drafts throughout the season. I’ve got my twitter back now, and have been seeing people tag me and stuff.

I’ve always been a humble guy. I think highly of myself, but have never been engulfed in myself. It’s nice to see where I’m projected, but I know what it took me to get to this point. I’m just going to continue to work hard and get more success.

I haven’t really thought about it (playing in the bowl game). Definitely going to talk with my family to see what’s the best option for me. I’m just trying to fonish strong with my finals.
