VIDEO VAULT: 4-star NC State commit Ian Steere is a SAVAGE in the paint
Ian Steere was a prize recruit for the Creighton Bluejays. His 6’9, 260 lbs of sheer muscle brings a physicality and violence that not many can match in the 2018 class. That’s why when he decommitted and flipped to NC State it was such a big deal.
Although we covered the commitment, it was in the heart of football season and we’re not sure Pack fans really paid attention to what they had just gotten.
It seems like lately, every few days, a couple more highlights come out showing Steere absolutely punishing the rim or throwing a shot into the seats. Here is one from yesterday.

And here he is (below) throwing down a poster windmill on UNC’s Brandon Huffman, shutting down the Josh Level Classic. Get used to it, Brandon.
Here is some more brutal footage of Steere dunking anything he touches with authority.
Currently, Steere is a 4-star and ranked just outside the top 100 on Rivals and only a 3 star for 247. So, what gives? We watch a ton of recruit footage and it’s rare you find a power, strength, athlete combo like you see here.
The knock early on was his polish and his weight. He’s always had a ton of muscle, he was carrying a little extra weight early on. Now that he’s grown into his frame, he’s more lean, more solid and more bouncy. We believe he could be a borderline top 50 player in this class when all is said and done.
Once he gets to NC State you better believe they will work on his footwork in the post, and it’s also pretty clear that like everyone else on this roster Keatts will ahve him in the best shape of his life.
If you make those improvements, right away the 6’9 Steere becomes one of the biggest, most solid bodies in the ACC. I think it’s safe to say we’re really excited about this kid’s future with the Pack.
And don’t get confused. Steere is not just huge and athletic. He’s got nice touch and pretty decent court vision (as shown here.)
