NC State’s Bradley Chubb Got Snubbed

Last night NC State’s Bradley Chubb got snubbed.

Chubb won the Nagurski Award (Best overall defensive player in the nation) & the Hendricks Award (Best defensive end in the nation) earlier this week. He was the ONLY UNANIMOUS 1st Team All-American on defense for both the AP and Sports Illustrated.

Logically, you would think that he would have walked onto the stage last night to receive the Bednarik Award (best defensive player in the nation) on ESPN, but unfortunately logic didn’t prevail.

Junior Alabama Safety Minkah Fitzpatrick took home the hardware.

What were his stats?

52 tackles, six tackles for losses, 1.5 sacks, one interception, seven pass breakups and one forced fumble.

Really?

You could make the argument that NC State’s LB Germaine Pratt had better numbers than Fitzpatrick.

64 tackles, 5.5 for loss, 2 pass breakups and 2 interceptions.

Junior Georgia Linebacker Roquan Smith, the other finalist besides Chubb, had superior stats than Fitzpatrick.

113 tackles, 10.5 tackles for loss, and 5.5 sacks.

But no one had a superior defensive season than the other finalist…Bradley Chubb.

He freaking has 73 tackles as a defensive end! He also has 26 tackles for loss and 10 sacks.

For the 2nd straight year, an Alabama player walked across the stage on ESPN to receive the Bednarik Award.

The romance between ESPN and Alabama exchanged more hardware last night.

Chubb got snubbed.
