Yesterday 2019 3-Star combo Guard Trey McGowens (6’4”/175) took an unofficial visit to NC State, and witnessed the Wolfpack lose to UNC-Greensboro.

McGowens once was a member of the 2018 recruiting class, but has reclassified to 2019. He made the move because he is really young for the 2018 class, and thought another year of development would increase his college options.

He took an unofficial visit to NC State in June, and after reclassifying, he picked up an offer from the Wolfpack on November 4th. The Wolfpack’s coaching staff was out watching him a few weeks later.

McGowens took an official visit with Clemson in November, and it apparently went really well, and they are still interested in taking him in 2018, which is a possibility still on the table.

He has also taken unofficial visits to South Carolina, Wake Forest, Virginia Tech and Tennessee.

McGowens has a strong connection with the NC State coaching staff, because he plays for Hargrave Military Academy, are Kevin Keatts and A.W. Hamilton both were head coaches there.

“It’s really deep because coach Keatts, he coached at Hargrave so they run the exact same stuff, so I feel like if I were to go there it would be an easy transition,” he said. “When I went to Clemson I saw how they were developing their guards, with reads and all that.” (247)

He is the #119 overall player in the 2019 class according to Rivals.
