Freshman PG Lavar Batts has been playing some of his best basketball as of late. Last night, not only was he the best perimeter defender on the floor, he also scored 7 points and had 4 assists. Here is his postgame interview.

Here are the cliff notes:

  • When the ball moves like that and everyone is getting their touches, makign shots, and there are no arguments, the game is fun.
  • When Keatts recruited (Batts) he emphasized ball pressure. Quick hands, quick feet. That is what he emphasizes to the whole team. Playing hard, gritty, getting deflections and steals. That is why (Batts) came here and what needs to happen every game.
  • Knew Al Freeman was going to get hot. He can score it off the dribble, or off the catch. He can defend. He is just a very versatile player and a really, really, really good scorer. He’s going to make noise in the ACC.
  • Keatts emphasized this game. Lots of teams are mailing it in right now, knowing they are about to go on break. Message was to stay focused and get this win. See if it can become a streak. See how many we can win in a row.
  • NC State has been great. The classroom has been good. This has all been great. The deision to come to NC State was a good one.
  • The transition from HS to college is big. You have to work harder, but this is what (Batts) wanted, this was what (Batts) worked for. Gotta work, gotta grind.
  • This can be a great shooting team. Everyone can shoot it, especially Beverly, Hunt and Freeman. This can be a deadly shooting team.
  • Team has been saying, all the things these teams have been getting away with, in the ACC they are a bucket. Guys are better, bigger, faster. They telling (Batts) ‘You ain’t seen nothing yet.’ But team just has to keep working.
