Bradley Chubb is 1st Consensus 1st Team All-American Since 1979

Defensive End Bradley Chubb is NC State’s first consensus 1st Team All-American since Jim Richter in 1979.

When I first reported this back on December 12th, I stated that Chubb was the 7th player ever to earn the prestigious honor in NC State history. I gathered that data from the NC State media Guide.

Since then I’ve come to learn that the “consensus” title is only given to players who earn 1st Team Honors from a panel of 5 media outlets: The Sporting News, Walter Camp Football Foundation, The Associated Press, the Football Writers Association of America and the American Football Coaches Association.

If this is the working definition of what a “consensus” 1st Team All-American is, then WR Torry Holt, PK Marc Primanti, Jim Ritcher (1978), Ted Brown, Bill Yoest and Roman Gabriel weren’t technically “Consensus” 1st Tean All-Americans. They were simply 1st Team All-Americans.

That means there have only been 3 “consensus” 1st Team All-Americans, and Bradley Chubb is one of them.

DT Dennis Byrd (1967)

The legend of Bradley Chubb continues to grow.
