UPDATE: Johnson’s felony assault case has been continued to another hearing on January 8th. If Johnson received a Not-guilty verdict then, and was allowed to return to the team, he would miss the first three ACC games, against Clemson, Notre Dame and Duke.

NC State point guard Markell Johnson is facing felony assault charges for an incident that took place on October 8th in Cleveland, Ohio, his hometown.

He was summoned on December 5th, and was suspended indefinetly by NC State on December 16th.

Johnson, along with co-defendants, Michael Melton Jr., Johnnie Pullum, and DeMarious Green were indicted and jailed in Cuyahoga County on December 20th, gave DNA samples , and were released on $5,000 bond.

After pleading not guilty, John T. Paris, Johnson’s attorney, filed a motion for discovery on the 20th as well.

Discovery is the formal process of exchanging information between the parties about the witnesses and evidence to be presented at trial. The purpose of a motion for discovery is to make the parties aware of the evidence that may be presented during trial.

Johnson, along with the other co-defendants, will have a pre-trial conference at Cuyahoga (Ohio) County Justice Center this morning at 9am.

The Sophomore Wolfpack point guard requested prayers via Twitter last night shortly after the news broke.
