Mizzou Freshman PG Blake Harris to transfer. Could NC State be in play?

Missouri’s 6’3 freshman PG, Blake Harris (a former 4-star) has put in his transfer and was granted his release earlier today.

Missouri freshman guard Blake Harris told ESPN he has received his release and will transfer elsewhere. Heralded recruit out of Chapel Hill.

Harris is from Chapel Hill, NC and went to Word of God Academy in Raleigh. If you remember, we reported that Harris visited NC State in March before committing to Missouri in April.

Actually, Harris was only looking around because he had decommitted from Washington after their coaching change. It’s likely that he followed Michael Porter Jr (also a former Washington commit) to Missouri and wasn’t really set that decision in the first place.

So, where will he end up? At this point, there really isn’t any concrete talk about Harris to NC State (or any other school for that matter), but there is talk that he would like to be closer to home.

I think Wolfpack fans would be wise to keep track of this over the next week or so.

Harris was highly recruited, both before his Washington commitment and after he reneged (prior to selecting Mizzou). He held offers from NC State, Michigan State, UConn, Cincy, Clemson, Memphis, LSU, Wake Forest, VT and many more. So obviously, all those schools are likely back in play.

Also note that Harris is good friends with NC State commit Ian Steere, who tweeted this today.

Harris was averaging 3.8 points and 3 assists in 13 minutes per game. He shot 40% from the floor, but did not connect on any of his seven 3pt attempts.

Harris actually has a good shot, so I’m surprised to see he hasn’t hit a single 3 this season. However, 40% from the floor isn’t a bad number for a freshman PG. His assist total is where he shines. It may not look like much, but 3 assist per game is pretty good when you take into account he was only getting 13 minutes per game. If you break that down, Harris is averaging .23 assist per minute. For comparison, Markell Johnson was averaging .24 assists per minute and he was leading the ACC in ‘Assist Rate.’
