Nyheim Hines to the NFL: OUR TAKE

I can’t say I saw this one coming.

In fact, out of everyone that could potentially leave early, Hines was the one I was most certain would return.

But at the end of the day, Hines is a smart and rational young man, and he did what he thought was best for his future.

Personally, in my mind, there is no doubting that Hines could have increased his draft stock if he would have come back for his Senior season.

The phrase “could have” above is key.

A healthy Hines definetly “would” have increased his draft stock in 2018, but “could” he stay healthy?

That had to be a major component in Hines decision. He suffered leg injuries the past two seasons, and even went through concussion protocol in 2017.

Hines doesn’t have the numbers of his buddy Bryce Love (2,118 rushing yards, 8.1 yards per carry), where he could get hurt next year, and still know that he would get drafted high.

Even though I haven’t seen anything that projects Hines to be drafted in the first three rounds, the “Nyghtmare” is no slouch.

His 1,717 all-purpose yards were second to none in the ACC in 2017, and his 1,113 rushing yards were 2nd. He was 1 of 4 finalists for the Hornung Award, given to the nations most versatile player. He was a 2nd Team All-American with the AFCA in the all-purpose slot.

Hines’ versatility will be appealing to NFL suitors, and I’m not just talking about his kick return abilities. For his first two seasons, Nyheim was a slot receiver for the Wolfpack. He will also be extremely impressive during the interview process, and in all of the measurables at the Combine.

The loss of Hines is huge for the 2018 NC State football team, but Wolfpack fans have to be extremely appreciative of the way Hines represented NC State, and will continue to do so.
