Kevin Keatts presser after loss to #3 Virginia :: Bulleted

NC State fell to #3 Virginia 68-51 on Sunday night in Charlottesville. Kevin Keatts met with the media after the game to give his thoughts. Here are the cliff notes of that presser.

  • Bennett has a really good team. Knew they had 15 wins and would be tough. Thought guys played hard on both ends of the floor, but to beat them we had to really share the basketball. Had 7 assists. It wasn’t good enough.
  • Too many individual defensive breakdowns. Can’t have those when you play a team that limits possession like they do. Give them credit. Proud of the team but time to get back to work.
  • Knew coming in they had 3 guys shooting over 40% from 3 and couldn’t lose them. Did a good job early on of running them off the 3pt line, but lost them in the 2nd half. Every time we made a run, they made a play.
  • Devon Hall was tremendous. Scored at all 3 levels.
  • Everyone wants to talk about the pack line, but Virginia has 3 or 4 guys who are very good individual defenders. They keep you in front. Even when you get past those guys, they do a great job as a team.
  • Had great looks from 3, but couldn’t knock them down. Beverly had good looks but it was one of those nights where nothing was falling.
  • Good to have Markell back. It will take some time before he’s 100%. He’s still rusty.
  • Virginia is very patient in their offense. They have 3 guards who are very good and their bigs know their roles. They don’t take shots outside of their offense. They understand the shots they are supposed to take.
