McClendon Transferring From NC State: OUR TAKE

Jalan McClendon is a freaking good person.

He has been nothing less than an amazing teammate at NC State, despite never earning the starting job.

Over his first two years (1st was a redshirt season) at NC State, he got to play behind and learn from Jacoby Brissett, who started this past season for the Indianapolis Colts. The past two years he has been the backup to Ryan Finley, who is on his way to playing on Sunday’s as well after next season.

Despite being in a reserve role for the past three seasons, the sideline has been energized by his contagious positivity. NC State has been a better team because of McClendon. The morale and attitude of a team aren’t simply created by those on the field.

I have been waiting to see if McClendon ended up making this decision, and honestly hoped he would after Finley made his decision to stay.

I’m not saying he should have started at NC State the past three years, but he deserves to start somewhere during his final year of eligibility.

McClendon was a 4-Star recruit, ranked in the Top 300, and the #12 pro-style quarterback in his class.

The exit of McClendon opens the door for Matt McKay and Devin Leary to battle it out to be Finley’s backup next season.

I’m proud of the way McClendon represented NC State, and Wolfpack fans will be pulling for him wherever he lands.
