NC State Moves Maurice Trowell From WR to CB

NC State has updated their football roster, and it looks like Maurice Trowell will spend his Redshirt Senior season at Cornerback instead of Wide Receiver, where he spent his first three seasons.

Trowell, a Durham native, is one of the fastest players on the roster, regardless of position.

As a Freshman, he flashed his speed and had 12 receptins for 210 yards and 2 touchdowns (83-Yards and 53-Yards). The following year, Trowell has 9 receptions for 149 yards and a touchdown (70 yards).

This past year, Trowell didn’t record a single catch, and only played 10 snaps from scrimmage all season (all against Furman). The rest of his playing time was limited to special teams.

At 5’11”, Trowell is shorter than what we have come to expect out of an NC State receiver the past couple of years, but his speed and athleticism could come in handy at Cornerback.

Seniors Mike Stevens and Johnathan Alston both saw a lot of action this past season at Corner, but their eligibility has expired. That leaves Sophomore Nick McCloud as the only experienced Corner returning.

Freshman Chris Ingram started against Wake Forest this season, and struggled mightily. With that being said, Doeren believed he was their best in coverage. James Valdez will be returning from a torn ACL as a Sophomore next season.

All that to say, NC State has plenty of depth at Wide Receiver, but not at Cornerback. Maybe Trowell can make an impact similar to Johnathan Alston in his Final year of eligibility.
