Jack Tocho Signs Reserve/Futures Deal With Vikings

Former NC State Cornerback Jack Tocho has signed a Reserve/Futures contract with the Vikings. He was drafted by Minnesota in the 7th round of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Tocho spent last season on the Vikings practice squad. He was released three times, and then re-signed by them three times.

There was an offer on the table to join the Houston Texans, but in the end, Tocho wanted to continue to build upon the foundation that has been laid in Minnesota.

“I just looked at the situation moving forward and how much I learned playing in this defense playing the safety position,’’ said Tocho, who was a cornerback at North Carolina State. “I felt like it was the best situation for me moving forward for my career.’’

“It’s hard not to have a grudge toward that (being released 3 times), but I understand it’s a business and I could have made the 53-man roster and I wouldn’t have had to go through those type of obstacles, but that’s all in the past now,’’ Tocho said. “I have an opportunity to make the 53-man roster with the Minnesota Vikings, so that’s all I’m worried about now.’’ (TC)

Don’t look down on a player because they are on practice squad for an NFL team. It’s a lucrative position playing professional football.

A team is allowed to only have 10 players on their practice squad, and each player is paid a minimum of $7,200 a week (It goes up to $7,600 a week next season.)

This new contract doesn’t guarantee Tocho a spot on the 53-man roster next Fall, but it shows that the organization wants to continue developing him and sees a future with him. Tocho will head into OTA’s with the team.

If he were to make the 53-man roster next season, he would be guaranteed the league minimum salary, which will be $480,000.
