Mike Glennon to be Released by the Bears

The Chicago Bears are set to release former NC State quarterback Mike Glennon once the new league year starts on March 14th.

The Bears signed Glennon to a 3-year $45 million deal prior to last season, but then they traded up to the 2nd pick to draft former UNC quarterback Mitch Trubisky.

Glennon started the first four games of the season before losing the job to Trubisky in 2017.

The reason that the Bears can’t release Glennon until after the 2018 year starts, is because there was a stipulation that he was guaranteed a roster spot at the beginning of the year, guaranteeing him the $2.5 million roster bonus. In sum, Glennon will earn the $18.5 million guaranteed prior to his release.
