NC State’s History in the NCAA Tournament by Seeding
Tomorrow marks NC State’s 27th trip to the NCAA Tournament, but only the 2nd time the Wolfpack has entered as the #9 seed.
Here’s a breakdown of which seeds NC State has been in the Tournament, and how many times at each.
(It’s worth noting that they didn’t start seeding the NCAA Tournament until 1978.)
3 – Three times (1985, 1988, 2004)
4 – One Time (1980)
5 – One Time (1989)
6 – Three times (1983, 1986, 1991)
7 – Two times (1982, 2002)
8 – Two times (2013, 2015)
9 – Two times (2003, 2018)
10 – Two times (2005, 2006)
11 – Two times (1987, 2012)
12 – One time (2014)
The only other time NC State was the #9 seed they lost to California 76-74 in the first rounds. Scooter Sherrill sunk a three with 12.8 seconds left in OT to give the Wolfpack a 74-73 lead, but Cal answered with a trey from Richard Midgley with 3.9 seconds on the clock to secure the victory.
