NC State’s Will Wilson Earns ACC Player of the Week Honors
NC State Sophomore Shortstop Will Wilson was named the ACC Player of the Week. Outfielder Brett Kinneman is getting all the glory, but the guy batting behind him, Wilson, is destroying the ball as well.
Wilson turned in a stellar week at the plate to lead No. 20 NC State to a perfect 5-0 week, highlighted by the program’s first-ever three-game sweep at No. 9 Clemson. In the five games, he hit .545 with 12 hits, seven runs and five runs driven in, and had five extra-base hits with a slugging percentage of .955 and an on-base percentage of .600. He recorded more than one hit in each game of the week and extended a streak of reaching base safely to 36 consecutive games.
The sophomore shortstop from Kings Mountain, North Carolina, finished the series against the Tigers with a .500 batting average and tallied a series-high six hits. On Sunday, Wilson recorded his first career multi-home run game, giving NC State a 1-0 lead with a solo shot in the first and a go-ahead homer in the eighth that proved the difference in a 5-4 Wolfpack win. I believe we’re watching a future major leaguer in Wilson. I didn’t watch much Pack baseball last year, but I’ve seen several games on TV this season, and Wilson consistently produces quality at-bats. He looks like a 4.5 – 5 tool player to me (not sure about his power). And he’ll be back next year!
