NC State Defends NCAA Title in 800 Freestyle Relay
MINNEAPOLIS- The NC State men’s swimming and diving team had an outstanding start to the 2018 NCAA Men’s Swimming and Diving Championships Wednesday night, taking the title in the 800 freestyle relay for the second year in a row.

The team of Andreas Vazaios, Ryan Held, Jacob Molacek and Justin Ress clocked in at 6:05.31 seconds to break the school, U.S. Open and NCAA records.
Andreas Vazaios also broke the school and ACC record in the 200 freestyle thanks to his lead-off split of 1:31.32 seconds.
After the first night of competition NC State leads the team standings with 40 points, Indiana sits in second with 34 points and Texas is third with 32 points rounding out the top three.

NC State will continue competition at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis through Saturday. Action will resume inside the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at 11 a.m. (ET) on Thursday as the team competes in the 200 free relay, 500 free, 200 IM, 50 free and 400 medley relay. Live results and live stream will be available for both sessions.
