#4 seed NC State faces off against #1 seed Miss St. tonight in Sweet 16

Tonight NC State’s women’s basketball team (26-8) will face off against Mississippi St. (34-1) in the Sweet 16 at 7pm (ET) on ESPN. The Wolfpack are a #4 seed, and the Bulldogs are the #1 seed.

This is NC State’s 12th trip to the Sweet 16. Keep in mind, this Wolfpack squad was picked to finish 10th in the ACC this season.

Mississippi St. is ranked 4th in the polls, and has their scoring margin is +26.5. The Wolfpack, ranked 17th, have a tough test ahead of them, but they played Louisville twice this year, and the Cardinals were ranked in the Top-5 on both occasions. Even though NC State lost both contests, both losses were by less than 10 points.

If NC State can pull off a major upset tonight, it will mark the Wolfpack’s first trip to the Elite 8 since 1998. It would also be only the 5th time in school history that a team won at least 27 games in a single season.

The winner of tonight’s contest will play the winner of Texas and UCLA.
