NC State sits 2nd after day two at NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS- The NC State men’s swimming & diving team picked up where it left off on the second day of the NCAA Championships as it earned All-America honors in all five swimming events to sit in second place by a margin of just four points Thursday inside the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center.

The Pack set an American record in the 200 freestyle relay along with setting school and ACC records in each of the swimming events.

200 Freestyle Relay
The team of Ryan Held, Justin Ress, Jacob Molacek and Coleman Stewart posted a time of 1:14.50 seconds to set new American, school and ACC records. Held’s lead-off split of 18.56 also set new school & ACC records.

In the prelim the team of Ryan Held, Justin Ress, Cobe Garcia and Coleman Stewart won its heat and posted the second-fastest time overall, 1:15.43 seconds.

500 Freestyle
Anton Ipsen earned All-America honors for the fourth-consecutive year as he took third with a time of 4:09.13 seconds. He also broke the school & ACC records.

Ipsen earned the second-fastest time in the prelim, 4:11.02 seconds, Eric Knowles went 4:17.99 seconds to finish 34th and Jack McIntyre finished 47th with a time of 4:22.69 seconds.

200 IM
Along with finishing second and being named an All-American, Andreas Vazaios posted the fourth-fastest time ever as he touched the wall at 1:39.97 seconds. He also broke the school and ACC records.

Vazaios posted the third-fastest time in the prelim, touching the wall at 1:40.93 seconds.

50 Freestyle
Ryan Held became an All-American in the 50 freestyle for the fourth-straight year as he finished second with a time of 18.64. Justin Ress was named Honorable Mention All-American as he finished second in the ‘B’ final with a time of 19.06

The Pack’s four entries performed strongly in the prelim with Held going 18.69 to take second, Ress posting a time of 19.09 to finish tenth, Jacob Molacek taking 17th in 19.21 and Giovanni Izzo finishing 47th in 20.06.

400 Medley Relay
The Wolfpack earned more All-America honors as it took second and set new school and ACC records. The team of Coleman Stewart, Jacob Molacek, Ryan Held and Justin Ress posted a time of 3:01.76 seconds, re-breaking the Pack’s records from prelims.

In the prelim the Pack set new school and ACC records; Andreas Vazaios, Daniel Graber, Coleman Stewart & Jacob Molacek posted a time of 3:02.70 seconds which was the second-fastest prelim time.

Up Next:
NC State will continue competition at the NCAA Championships in Minneapolis through Saturday. Action will resume inside the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at 10 a.m. on Friday as the team competes in the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, 100 backstroke, 3-meter diving and 200 medley relay. Live results and live stream will be available for both sessions.
