C.J. Williams called back up to the Clippers

Former NC State Guard C.J. Williams has been called back up from the G-League to the NBA, and will be with the Clippers on Tuesday night.

Williams just wrapped up the season finale for the Agua Caliente Clippers of Ontario (the G-League affiliate of the Los Angeles Clippers).

To say that C.J. finished the season on fire would be an understatement. In the final three regular season games with Agua Caliente, Williams went on a scoring explosion, dropping 35 (9 threes), 20 (4 threes) and 36 (6 threes).

Williams is a two-way player, meaning he is under contract to play for the Clippers G-League affiliate, and is guaranteed time with the Clippers NBA squad. The catch is, under the two-way contract, you are only allowed to play a limited amount of time in the NBA, and Williams all but maxed that out awhile back.

C.J. has proven that he is an NBA player. He has played 30 games for the Clippers his season, starting 15 of them, averaging 6 points per game in 20 minutes.

The two parties have been trying to negotiate a contract, but have been unable to come to terms. With the G-League regular season coming to a close, the NBA playing time restriction is waived, and Williams is good to play with the NBA team until the end of the Clips regular season. If they want CJ’s services in the playoffs, they will have to give him a new contract. Williams becomes a restricted free agent on June 30th.
