RALEIGH, N.C. – The list of program firsts continues to grow for the NC State Wrestling team for the 2017-18 season, as the Wolfpack set a new attendance record for its five home duals this past season.

NC State led the ACC and ranked 12th nationally in averaging 1,868 fans per dual this past season. That mark is a new school record for attendance in a season.

“The many Wolfpack fans that continue to come out and watch us compete are such a vital part of the growth of this program,” said head coach Pat Popolizio. “Our fan base has grown tremendously over the last few years, and they help to make Reynolds Coliseum one of the best home venues in college wrestling.

“We are looking forward to the same type of environment this upcoming season, and many more to come.”

In addition to setting a new single season record for attendance, the 2018 season also provided a new single dual attendance record as 3,905 fans saw NC State battle Ohio State in the final regular season dual.

Other home highlights saw 2,147 fans come to Reynolds to watch NC State defeat rival North Carolina for the fifth straight season, while 1,394 were in attendance when the Pack clinched the ACC regular season title with a win over Virginia Tech the last weekend of the season.

On the national level, after a record 19 schools attracted more than 1000 per match last season, 23 did so this year, setting a new standard for college wrestling. Eleven programs cracked 2000, up from the previous record of nine that did so in 2015-16.
