Former NC State Assistant Basketball Coach Larry Hunter passed away yesterday at the age of 68 after suffering a stroke this past Sunday.

Hunter was an assistant at NC State under head coach Herb Sendek from 2002-2005. Prior to his arrival, Sendek had been at the helm for 5 seasons without a NCAA Tournament appearance. With the arrival of Hunter, came the arrival of the Princeton style offense that he helped Sendek implement. Hunter helped Sendek lead the Wolfpack to 4 consecutive NCAA Tournaments.

In total, Hunter coached 38 seasons, racking up 702 wins as a head coach (Ohio, Wittenberg, and Western Carolina). Only 53 coaches in the history of men’s college basketball have won more than 700 games. Hunter stepped down as head coach at Western Carolina in March after 13 seasons.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the Hunter family.
