Guard Lavar Batts Jr to Transfer From NC State

NC State Guard Lavar Batts Jr is officially transferring from NC State.

Batts averaged only 3.7 points per game in a mere 13.2 minutes per game, while shooting 32.1% from the field during his Freshman season. Honestly, I’m shocked it took this long for this to be announced officially. This has been expected to happen for a long time.

Batts was originally a VCU commit, but decommitted on March 31st of last year, and committed to Kevin Keatts the next day. What he might not have seen coming was the commitment of Braxton Beverly, who took any of the playing time he might have seen.

There is no doubting the fact that Beverly gave NC State’s offense a boost that Batts couldn’t offer, but there were definitely times during the season where I was left wondering why Keatts didn’t switch to Batts when Beverly wasn’t hitting his shot, and was being abused on defense.

With all of the new players suiting up for the Red and White for the Wolfpack next season, Batts saw the lack of playing time only increasing, and decided to find a new home.

There is no reason for NC State fans to be alarmed at Batts transferring. All of the guards on NC State’s roster next season are superior talents, and I mean that with no disrespect to Batts. This is honestly the best decision for Batts, and opens up another scholarship for the Wolfpack.
