NC State Must Beat FSU on Friday to Advance to Semifinals

NC State’s first game in the ACC Tournament is tomorrow against UVA at 3pm, but in all reality, the outcome of the game is of no consequence to the Wolfpack.

Yesterday the other two members of Pool C faced off, and FSU beat UVA with yet another walkoff hit in extra innings, this one coming in the eleventh inning via a RBI double by Reese Alter.

As a result, in the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter if NC State loses to UVA tomorrow. The result of tomorrow’s game has no bearing on propelling the Wolfpack to the ACC Tournament Semifinals.

If NC State beats FSU on Friday night, they advance. Period.

The Wolfpack and the Seminoles closed out the regular season with a three-game series down in Tallahassee, with the home team taking 2 out of 3. FSU took Games 1 & 2 with walkoff hits in extra innings, but the way NC State recovered and won the regular season finale should be a confidence booster heading into Friday night’s contest. The Wolfpack never trailed, winning 5-3.

It’s is unknown who will start on the mound for NC State. Freshman sensation Reid Johnston was slated to pitch tomorrow against UVA, but I would personally be shocked it that doesn’t change.
