Former NC State Baseball Player is an NBA Finals Referee

Former NC State baseball player David Guthrie is serving as a referee in the NBA Finals for the 1st time in his career (13 seasons).

If you look at the list of referees that earned the honor of officiating the 2018 NBA Finals, Guthrie is the only newcomer.

Guthrie was a letterwinner at NC State in 1995, and went on to be drafted by the Cincinnati Reds in the 26th round after the season. He played for 4 seasons in the Reds Minor League system.

In 2017-18, Guthrie officiated 62 games in the NBA. If you want to check out his referee statistics (that I don’t feel like spending too much time to understand and explain), click here.

And how could I resist sharing this photo from his early years.
