JR Sweezy Released by Bucs
Former NC State Defensive Lineman JR Sweezy has been released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
The #Buccaneers are releasing G J.R. Sweezy, sources say. Sweezy had been working his way back from a broken bone in his leg suffered late last year. Sweezy, 29, saw two years of a five-year deal he signed as a free agent in 2016. Missed that whole first season due to injury.

While playing defensive tackle in college, Sweezy has been an offensive lineman in the NFL from the start. He played his first 4 seasons for the Seattle Seahawks, and was a starting offensive tackle for the final three. In 2016, Tampa Bay signed Sweezy to a 5-year $32.5 million contract, but he didn’t play a single snap in 2016, recovering from back surgery. He finally suited up in 2017 for the Bucs, starting 14 games before being put on Injured Reserve near the end of the season because of a broken bone in his leg.
Garafolo believes that a likely landing place for Sweezy would be back in Seattle.
Still early for J.R. Sweezy after his release by Tampa today but a return to Seattle would make a lot of sense and would be a natural fit. I’d think that’s something the Seahawks would explore.
